Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) announces violinist Simone Porter is replacing Stefan Jackiw, who withdrew from the December 12-13 performances due to the flu. Porter, a 19-year-old "virtuosic" violinist (The Times, London) and recipient of a 2015 Avery Fisher Career Grant, made her professional debut with the Seattle Symphony at age 10 and has appeared with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, among other orchestras. Jackiw expressed that he withdraws "with much regret."
LACO's concerts will take place as planned, featuring guest conductor Peter Oundjian, music director of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Scotland's Royal National Orchestra, on Saturday, December 12, 2015, 8 pm, at the Alex Theatre, Glendale, and Sunday, December 13, 2015, 7 pm, at UCLA's Royce Hall. Oundjian conducts Bartók's Divertimento, Sz 113; Beethoven's Symphony No. 4 in B-flat major, Op. 60, and Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64, featuring Porter.

Violinist SIMONE PORTER has been recognized as an emerging artist of impassioned energy, musical integrity and vibrant sound. The Los Angeles Times, after referring to her as a "future star," wrote, "Let's strike the word 'future.' She sounds ready. Now." At 19 years old, she has already appeared with the New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra and Los Angeles Philharmonic. Porter made her professional solo debut at age 10 with the Seattle Symphony and her international debut with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at age 13. In March 2015, Porter was named a recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant. Porter's 2015-16 season marks her Walt Disney Concert Hall debut with Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, as well as debuts with the Baltimore, Berkeley, Des Moines, Detroit, Hartford and Houston symphonies and with the Rochester Philharmonic and the Florida Orchestra. In recent years, Porter has made several acclaimed debuts, including the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and conductor Ludovic Morlot, the Philadelphia Orchestra with Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the Aspen Music Festival and conductor Thomas Søndergård and the Grand Teton Music Festival and Donald Runnicles. Porter has performed recitals in Salt Lake City and Los Angeles and had the honor of performing for the Dalai Lama at the opening ceremony of a five-day symposium on compassion in Seattle, Washington, in 2008. Porter has been heard on the renowned syndicated NPR radio program "From the Top" and made her Carnegie Hall debut on the Emmy Award-winning TV show "From the Top: Live from Carnegie Hall." The recipient of numerous honors and awards, Porter is a 2011 Davidson Fellow Laureate, an award given by the Davidson Institute for Talent Development. In 2009, she was presented as an Emerging Young Artist by the Seattle Chamber Music Society. Raised in Seattle, Washington, Porter studied with Margaret Pressley as a recipient of the Dorothy Richard Starling Scholarship. She currently studies with Jascha Heifetz Distinguished Chair Robert Lipsett at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles.
