The 27th Kritzerland show is a tribute to the music of the great
Richard Rodgers, mostly with lyrics by Hammerstein, but a few by Hart and by Sondheim. Back in 2001,
Bruce Kimmel began working on The
Richard Rodgers Album, a long-planned CD. But, for various reasons, the album didn't happen, so it's pleasing to be able to present what- was-to-be live at The Federal.
Richard Rodgers is, simply put, one of the greatest musical theatre composers who ever lived, and his music has thrilled and touched millions of people, first with the scintillating collaboration with
Lorenz Hart, and then his amazing collaboration with
Oscar Hammerstein, which resulted in some of the most beloved musicals ever written – Oklahoma!, South Pacific, Carousel, The King and I, Flower Drum Song, The Sound of Music as well as the less successful but equally as tuneful Allegro and Pipe Dream, along with their original musical for TV, Cinderella. One could fill a book with the Rodgers songs that have become standards - our show will be our usual mix of the well-known and the less well-known. In the case of
Richard Rodgers the unknown isn't really the unknown, but Kritzerland has a few surprises.
It's truly a treat to have
Alvin Ing with us, who appeared in the recent Broadway revival of Flower Drum Song.
