Kelrik is pleased to announce their new INSPIRE 2013 Season. Now in its eighth year in San Luis Obispo, Kelrik is raising the bar for itself with INSPIRE by producing more shows than ever before in a single season.
Kelrik's primary goal has always been to provide the highest quality family theatre featuring local talent. This year they are excited to bring back Kelrik's AFTER DARK series: SPELLING BEE, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, and URINETOWN. Because these shows are geared toward adult audiences, children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Curtain times for Kelrik AFTER DARK performances are Friday and Saturday evenings only. By broadening its repertoire in this way, Kelrik is pleased to add to the range of entertainment options in our community.
This year the company will present new works such as well as revive old favorites that uphold the standards and visions of Kelrik: quality "edutainment," by which they mean theater which both educates and entertains. Myths, parables and fables have long been used to teach. Kelrik builds on this tradition, creating audience-pleasing productions which provide food for thought -- as well as being great fun! They will also offer after-school workshops for actors of all ages and abilities throughout the year.
As a company, Kelrik is dedicated to the growth of their actors, theater-goers, and the artistic medium in which they all connect. Their shows remain true to the stories on which they are based, often incorporating songs and scenes removed by other directors. Each features a talented cast of local actors, first-rate production values, and opportunities for audience interaction and participation.
INSPIRE 2013 is Kelrik's most ambitious season to date. With the addition of the AFTER DARK series to our notable family friendly shows, we hope to entertain both our younger and more mature audience members alike to create a truly magical theatre experience for all ages. We look forward to the exciting season ahead of us, which promises to INSPIRE you!
The INSPIRE WINTER/SPRING SEASON 2013 will feature the Family and AFTER DARK series. All shows run at UNITY, 1490 Southwood Drive, San Luis Obispo. For ticket information call 805-543-PLAY (7529) or visit www.kelrikproductions.org.

THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE runs from February 22 - March 16 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm. Tickets are priced at $20.
Six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make you a loser. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee chronicles the overachievers' angst of six precocious adolescents. The show's Tony Award-winning creative team has created the unlikeliest of hit musicals about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time. (Due to the show's adult subject matter it is required that audience members under the age of 16 be accompanied by a parent or guardian.)
LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS runs from April 5 - April 21 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, Sundays at 2 pm. Tickets are priced at $20.
A down-and-out skid row floral assistant becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Soon "Audrey II" grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore who offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite. This affectionate spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies features songs by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken. Charming, tuneful and hilarious, with tongue firmly planted in cheek, Little Shop Of Horrors never fails to entertain. (Due to the show's adult subject matter it is required that audience members under the age of 16 be accompanied by a parent or guardian.)URINETOWN runs from June 7 - June 29 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm. Tickets are priced at $20.
In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. Citizens must use public amenities owned by a single malevolent company that charges admission for one of humanity's most basic needs until a hero decides he's had enough and plans a revolution. Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, Urinetownis an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny. With its outrageous perspective and wickedly modern wit, Urinetown redefines the Broadway musical for the 21st century. (Due to the show's adult subject matter it is required that audience members under the age of 16 be accompanied by a parent or guardian.)
