Just added to the Los Angeles Philharmonic's 2011/12 season is "Keith Jarrett: An Evening of Solo Improvisations," at Walt Disney Concert Hall, March 27, 2012.

The evening celebrates Jarrett's latest recording, Rio, a double-CD of a 90-minute solo improvisation concert that was recorded live in Brazil last April and praised by critics as one of the finest recordings of his career. In a recent interview on NPR's All Things Considered, Jarrett says of his improvisations, "It's never the same. I have no idea, moment to moment, how to prepare for these things, either. What actually happens is so much in the moment, so much of a nanosecond. And I know a lot of people probably are skeptical about whether they really are always improvised. I myself feel skeptical, even though I know they were."

Over the past five decades, Keith Jarrett has come to be recognized as one of the most creative musicians of our times - universally acclaimed as an improviser of unsurpassed genius; a master of jazz piano; a classical keyboardist of great depth; and as a composer who has written hundreds of pieces for his various jazz groups, plus extended works for orchestra, soloist, and chamber ensemble. His ease in versatility, moving between classical and jazz to his rich, unconventional styling has aided in the development of his own unique and immediately recognizable sound.
