The highly anticipated new musical Emojiland premieres next month as a concert reading at Rockwell Table & Stage in Los Angeles after several sneak-peek song showcases, as previously covered by BroadwayWorld. The show marks the first time emojis have been adapted into a long-form narrative.

Emojiland tells the story of an emoji civilization contained within a teenager's smartphone. When the phone falls behind a dresser, the inhabitants of Emojiland must figure out how to save themselves before the battery runs out and their universe shuts down, lost forever.

Since emojis have no race (and in many cases no gender) by definition, Emojiland creates a truly color-blind casting opportunity within the ever-evolving musical theatre canon.

The cast is set to include Emmy Award-winner/Tony nominee Keith David (Jelly's Last Jam) as Father Christmas, Mary Faber (American Idiot) as Woman, Corbin Reid (Sister Act) as Princess, Cornelius Jones Jr. (The Lion King) as Face, Alex Ellis (On A Clear Day...) as Information Desk Person, Matt Magnusson (Breaking Through) as Skull, Bridgette Bentley (The Color Purple) as Older Woman, Leah Lewis (Sing It!) as Girl, J.D. Phillips (Sing It!) as Boy, Danny Jacobs (Transparent) as Cat Face, Catherine LeFrere (Orange is the New Black) as Dancer, Parvesh Cheena (Outsourced) as Imp, David Haverty (Rockwell's Romeo & Juliet) as Ogre/Guardsman, Chris Yonan (The Idiot's Guide to Dating) as Man, Alberto Isaac (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) as Older Man/Sleuth, Marco Ramos (Spamalot at The Hollywood Bowl) as Baby Angel/Monkey, Jaime Moyer (Second City) as Construction Worker, LeShay Tomlinson (R. Kelly's Trapped in the Closet) as Police Officer, and Caitlainne Rose Gurreri (The Catch) and Gilli Messer (Jessie) as Two Women With Bunny Ears. Pile of Poo has yet to be announced.

Co-created by Keith Harrison (book, music, lyrics) and Laura Harrison (book), Emojiland premieres after two years of private development, supported in part by the Foundation for New American Musicals (www.lafestival.org) and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (www.ascap.com). The husband-and-wife writing team has been collaborating since 2006 while students together at Northwestern University. Their other current projects include touring with An Evening With Jason Alexander, workshopping 5th Avenue Theatre's upcoming production of Romy & Michele's High School Reunion, and performing as a music duo called The Giggle Gems, whose recent debut single "Lucky Squirrels" can be seen at MTV.com (http://www.mtv.com/videos/the-giggle-gems/1277036/lucky-squirrels.jhtml).

The performance will take place on May 9th, 2016 at 8:00pm. Visit www.emojiland.com to learn more.

Rockwell Table & Stage, located at 1714 N. Vermont Ave., is L.A.'s premiere spot for extraordinary entertainment and dining. Tickets for Emojiland are on sale for $15/$25/$35 at www.rockwell-la.com.
