Singer/songwriter Kari Kimmel, whose songs are often heard in movies, TV series and national commercials, brings her live show to the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood on August 6.
Kimmel, whose music encompasses elements of pop, rock, folk and R&B, recently released her second CD, "Out of Focus," comprised of 10 songs about love, loss and starting over. One of her earlier songs, "Great Big World," which appears on her EP "Pink Balloon," was recently selected by City of Hope for use in a television public service announcement to promote the organization's cancer walk-a-thons in cities across the U.S.
Kimmel has become one of the busiest songwriters in the film and television industry, since arriving in Hollywood from her native Florida. Known for her versatility and an ability to write clever lyrics and catchy melodies quickly, she is often called upon by music supervisors and producers to compose and record songs, sometimes on short notice.
"Creative decisions in film and tele
Vision Productions are often made at the last minute," Kimmel said. "One of the advantages I bring to a project, besides my ability to write on demand, is that I record in my own studio. When producers hire me, they don't have to wait for a lot of other people to find openings in their schedules. I get an assignment, and I can get it done very quickly."
Kimmel's songs have appeared in more than 100 movies and television programs, including "Private Practice," "Grey's Anatomy," "Shall We Dance," "The Hills," "White Chicks," "The Gilmore Girls," "10 Things I Hate About You," "WALL-E," "Nights in Rodanthe," "The Young and the Restless," "Ella Enchanted" and more. Additionally, her voice has been heard in the motion pictures "Dreamgirls," "Kimpossible" and "Tinkerbell."
Formerly signed to Atlantic Records and Virgin Records, Kimmel now works independently. She has collaborated on projects with leading musicians such as Abe Laboriel, Jr. (
Paul McCartney),
Rusty Anderson (
