Playwrights 6 is pleased to announce John Ireland's "Broken Ink" - an abstract drama dealing with the confrontation of pain and absurdities in life and death - will be presented as a staged reading Sunday, June 28.

The new play will be presented at 6:30 p.m. at the Meta Theatre, 7801 Melrose Ave. (entrance on Ogden), Los Angeles. The reading is free and open to the public. A reception with food and refreshments will be held afterwards.

"Broken Ink" is the first in this year's Playwrights 6's staged reading series, dubbed "Play Night with the Playwright."

"Broken Ink," a play in three acts, is Ireland' most oblique and personal work to date. The wall between the audience and stage is smashed. The play begins with a mound of half-formed humans in the center of the stage. Slowly they disengage and then engage, trying on life as they would various pieces of clothing. . . until they arrive at the death of the writer's parents.

Ireland, the son of actors, is a former television movie writer who now devotes full time to writing for the stage.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the critically acclaimed Playwrights 6 is one of an elite group of playwright-managed theater companies in Los Angeles. Playwrights 6 productions have earned several L.A. Weekly Theatre Award nominations and BackStage West Garland Award honorary mentions. Playwrights 6 productions have also made several "Critics Top 10" lists and garnered several "Critic's Picks." Recently, the company was featured in articles in The Dramatist, American Theatre and L.A. Stage magazines.
