Los Angeles -- Highways Performance Space Artistic Director Leo Garcia presents the cathartic multimedia one-man show, Apocalyptic Exodus Scenarios, written and performed by Joey Halter for two nights only tonight, July 31 and Saturday, August 1, 2015.

Blending philosophy with absurdist comedy, psychedelic lighting, video projections, and rock and roll, Halter's Apocalyptic Exodus Scenario is a humorous existential exploration of life's enigmas.

The 90-minute event starts at 8:30pm at Highways Performance Space (18th Street Arts Center, 1651 18th Street, Santa Monica, CA 90404). General admission tickets are $20 in advance ($15 for students, Highways members, and seniors) and can be purchased here. Reservations may also be made by calling 310-315-1459. Apocalyptic Exodus Scenarios - Apocalyptic Exodus Scenarios is a humorous multimedia one-man show that explores creative evolution and the personal apocalypse that we all must endure. Autobiographical in part, the surrealistic work navigates through different stages of life as well as the challenges involved in overcoming one's own reality. "We are all products of our earliest environments," says Halter, "And we come into this world with a set of circumstances hard-wired into our being... additionally, we all must make sense of life's ambiguities."

Part confessional mixed with pure fantasy, Apocalyptic Exodus Scenarios explores the struggle to change and grow, with a healthy dose of levity thrown into the mix. It captures the battle of the soul as it self-destructively tries to cling to old patterns. Through raw, stream of consciousness rantings that involve masturbation, aliens, and mindless jobs, colorful characters Charlie, Dave, Gary, Jim, Randy, and William collectively take an existential quest, through darkness and light, in search of meaning. The work, a collection of related monologues, tells the story of one man as many men -- a reflection on the myriad lives that we all inhabit within a single lifetime, much like nested Russian dolls.

"The work is serious, but also absurdly fun," says Halter, "It embraces the creative alchemy that we all have at our disposal for personal reinvention, to cultivate our own beings -- for better or worse."

Joey Halter, Writer/Performer/Producer - A self-taught actor, musician, and writer originally from Ohio, Joey Halter grew up with a passion for music and filmmaking. Heavily influenced by the DIY spirit of the punk scene as well as character-driven films from the likes of John Waters, John Cassavetes, and Harmony Korine, Halter's work investigates the oddities of human folly, sourced from personal insights gained through travel, avid thrift store shopping, and random people-watching. He moved to Los Angeles in 2009 in search of others who shared his passion for creation.

He is perhaps best known for his role as Jerry Powell in the cult classic Jerry Powell and the Delusions of Grandeur, written and directed by friend and frequent collaborator Mike Cuenca. Halter also wrote, produced, and stars in the one-man theatre show, Apocalyptic Exodus Scenarios, as well as his web series, The Railroad Bill Show.

He took a lot of acid in high school and really liked The Ramones. After living in Chicago for a time, he moved to Colorado where he lived with a bunch of pirates. He cites his influences as Philip K. Dick, Fraggle Rock, Henry Miller, Robert Anton Wilson, Heckle, and Jeckle Magpie. Halter's future goals include having out of body experiences, living in a castle, and embracing the fine art of puppetry.

Highways Performance Space - Under the leadership of Artistic Director Leo Garcia, Highways Performance Space is Southern California's boldest center for new performance. Described by the Los Angeles Times as "a hub of experimental theater, dance, solo drama, and other multimedia performance," Highways promotes the development of contemporary socially involved artists and art forms.
