Performances will be held Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm through its six-week run as a guest production at VS. Theatre at 5453 W. Pico Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90019.
After sharing an unexpected night of romance, Helen and Dan-two 50-somethings overwhelmed by today's flood of virtual connections and financial meltdowns-find themselves wondering if they've found something real and worth investing in. But as they navigate toast, coffee, and a budding relationship, Dan receives a call that bursts their bubble: there's been a horrible family tragedy. With all of Dan's siblings and Helen's best friend about to descend upon them, Helen and Dan must now negotiate much more than breakfast.
"Currency came to a year and a half ago as a blind submission, and we immediately recognized it as one of those rare gems of a play. One which not only gives our audience a chance to laugh at the absurdity of today's world, but also asks us to consider what in this fast-paced and surreal world is worth holding onto," comments Artistic Director Daniel Shoenman. "Each Other! That was the answer coming loud and clear from playwright Jennie Webb, and it resonated deeply with our team, especially Associate Artistic Director Annie McVey, who was the perfect director to tackle this fast-paced, high-energy, resonant comedy. After workshopping the play in our Development Lab last year, we are excited and proud to be continuing the journey with Jennie Webb by presenting the world premiere of Currency."
The cast of Currency features Dale Waddington as Helen, Warren Davis as Dan, Gina Torrecilla as Rae, Josh Stamell as Sparky, and Shirley Jordan as Georgia.
The production team for Currency includes: Krystyna Loboda (scenic design), Allison Dillard (costume design), Derrick McDaniel (lighting design), and Stephen Rowan (properties design). Additional credits include: Lisa Pantone (casting), Teresa Hartmann (stage manager) and Jeffrey Davis (assistant stage manager). Currency is produced by Daniel Shoenman, Bonnie Hallman (co-producer), Diana Wyenn (co-producer), and Elliot Shoenman (executive producer).
