JACCC Announces Events, Dave Koz to Perform with Asia America Symphony Orchestra, 6/5

On Saturday, June 5, platinum-selling artist, humanitarian, and six-time Grammy nominee, Dave Koz will join Music Director & Conductor David Benoit and the Asia America Symphony Orchestra at the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center to perform music from his "At The Movies" CD, as well as music of John Williams.

A 2009 recipient of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Dave Koz has played with musical legeds Ray Charles, Celine Dion, U2, Rod Stewart, and more. Tickets may be purchased through the Aratani/Japan America theatre Box Office by calling (213) 680-3700. The deadline date for online ticket purchases is Thursday, June 3at www.AsiaAmericaSymphony.org.

Other upcoming events at the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center include "An Evening with John Waters" on Tuesday, June 8. The Library Foundation of Los Angeles and JACCC presents America's favorite cult film director John Waters. Influenced by the likes of Jean-Luc Godard, Walt Disney, and Andy Warhol, Waters released numerous films including Pink Flamingos, which would become the most "notorious" film in American independent cinema of the 1970s. Proceeds from ticket sales go to support free cultural programs at the Los Angeles Public Library.

Join JACCC on from June 12 through July 18 for the U.S. premier of Winter Garden, a traveling worldwide exhibit organized by the Japan Foundation. Curated by renowned art critic Midori Matsui, this exhibit boasts a wide spectrum of work, including drawings, paintings, and video by 14 young pop and contemporary Japanese artists, including: Ryoko Aoki, Tam Ochiai, Lyota Yagi, Koki Tanaka, Hiroshi Sugito, Taro Izumi, Mahomi Kunikata, Aya Takano, Makiko Kudo, Chim Pom, Masanori Handa, Hiroe Saeki, Masaya Chiba and Keisuke Yamamoto. The exhibit is free.

On Saturday June 12 from 2-5pm, Buddhist monk, teacher, and medical doctor Dr. Barry Kerzin will present "Meditation: Cultivating Compassion and Happiness," a spiritually uplifting and intellectually challenging workshop reviewing the positive affects meditation can have on our outlook on life and long-term health. Living in Dharamsala for over 20 years, he provides medical care to high priest lamas as well as to the under-privileged. All donations will go towards covering expenses.
