I DIED TODAY written and directed by two-time Emmy Nominee GREG LaVOI premiers at 2018 Hollywood Fringe Festival. On a rainy suburban street, Jake realizes he died today as he looks at his lifeless body and his loyal dog keeping watch. He wonders if his life mattered, how he feels now that he's dead and who loved him and who he ultimately loved. I DIED TODAY Opens June 2nd at The Actors Company - 916 A Formosa Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90046.
Based on LaVoi's own near-death experience, I DIED TODAY is one story. One character. Four Actors. Four unique interpretations. Fourteen performances. I DIED TODAY is a drama with dark, comedic undertones. JAKE is resurrected from the dead, not as the middle-aged man he was, but as his 20-something self.
Jake tries to understand what happened as he ruminates on his life, his loves, and his loss. LaVoi takes the audience on a twenty-minute emotional journey of realizing what death means and how love truly is the only tangible thing Jake will miss.
The diverse cast features: DAVID GARELIK, JAHMONE DUHANEY, RENE ROSADO and MICHAEL ORLANDI.

ABOUT THE WRITER
Greg LaVoi is a costume designer and storyteller. For the past 13 years he told stories through the costumes he designed for Emmy Winner, Kyra Sedgwick on TNT's The CLOSER and then for Oscar Nominee Mary McDonnell on the spin-off of The Closer, MAJOR CRIMES. He recently produced and directed a short film: SISTER JUDY AND THE DELINQUENTS. He grew up in rural Southern Colorado. His parents saw his talent for the dramatic at a young age and built a basement theater for him with 25 theater seats, a curtain, and stage lights. He directed two productions a year, a summer musical and a winter drama to "SRO" neighbors. LaVoi designed over 40 low budget Roger Corman horror films and has designed costumes for sitcoms, movies of the week and one-hour dramas. In 2004 LaVoi wrote and photographed the best-selling coffee table book, BARBIE LOVES L.A., America's favorite doll sees the sights. And in 2013 the designer re-launched the couture fashion house of IRENE, which was available at Neiman Marcus. His current passion is writing, producing and directing.
I DIED TODAY was written as an exercise in recovery. LaVoi suffered Pulmonary Embolisms in 2017 following simple knee surgery. DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) and PE (Pulmonary Embolisms) kill more Americans annually than Breast Cancer, Traffic Accidents and HIV combined. The play was created so LaVoi could figure out what happened to him rather than asking, "Why Me?", he asked, "What was I supposed to learn from this?".
I DIED TODAY will be presented at The Actors Company, Let Live Theater (no pun intended!) The Actors Company - 916 A Formosa Avenue - Los Angeles, CA 90046 - 323-463-4639.
