The play is based on Giannakopoulos' award winning documentary of the same name, which aired nationally on PBS. Frances Fisher, Melina Kanakaredes, Mimi Rogers, and Jean Smart will perform this collection of monologues. Based on the true stories of mothers whose lives were radically changed when their sons and daughters were sent to fight the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The women represent very different opinions about war, politics, social and cultural issues. Despite these strong differences, as mothers they all share a limitless love for their children. Children who have been killed, maimed, and are in daily peril of their lives or who had the courage to refuse service. These American mothers represent women throughout history and in every part of the world who have ever sent a child to war. They represent Nigerian Mothers, Kosovo Mothers, Israeli mothers and yes even Iraqi mothers. They all share one common denominator: their love for their child. They are MOTHERS OF WAR!

On April 26th at 7 pm there will be a Gala Opening Fundraiser for Fisher House Foundation http://www.losangeles.va.gov/fisherhouse/ a network of comfort homes where military and veteran's families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment. This is the second fundraiser the production has done for Fisher House Foundation. In September 2011 the monologues were performed by many of the same cast members at Beverly Hills Playhouse.

THE FISHER HOUSE PROGRAM (http://www.fisherhouse.org/)

The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need. The program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs.

Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House Foundation donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times - during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.

There is at least one Fisher House at every major military medical center to assist families in need and to ensure that they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive environment. Annually, the Fisher House program serves more than 12,000 families, and has made available over three million days of lodging to family members since the program originated in 1990. By law, there is no charge for any family to stay at a Fisher House operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs; and Fisher House Foundation uses donations to reimburse the individual Fisher Houses operated by the Army, Navy, and Air Force. No family pays to stay at any Fisher House!
