High school election musical VOTE! will play a limited run at Los Angeles's Rockwell Table and Stage for six performances only-- January 11,12,13 and 18,19, 20. Executive produced by Kate Pazakis, the show, with book and lyrics by Ryann Ferguson and Music and lyrics by Steven Jamail is co-directed by Ferguson, and Haviland Stillwell, the first actress to ever play the lead role.
VOTE! Has previously seen sold out runs at both Minetta Lane Theatre in New York, as part of the New York International Fringe Festival, as well as at Houston's Theatre Under the Stars/Humphrey's School of Musical Theater. Additionally, the show has played all over the world with a heavy emphasis on educational settings for students.
Hailed as "FULL OF VERVE" by the New York Times, this high energy musical comedy focuses on the electoral process from the perspective of three high school seniors. The race forces the candidates to consider the meaning of each vote and the importance of distinctive character in politics. While some of the students have no problem gaining approval from their peers, others act as though they'll stop at nothing to win the coveted position of student council president. In the process of trying to please everybody, the election unravels, alliances change, and the candidates learn the value of individual dreams.
Current political climate has seen requests for the show soar and it seemed only fitting to finally have a production of the show featuring audience participation. In addition, performances of the show will feature on-site voter registration forms to drive home the message of participation in democracy.
Tickets are on sale now for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights with a limited two week run beginning on Jan 11, 2018. Showtime: 8pm. Rockwell Table & Stage is located in Los Feliz at 1714 N. Vermont Ave, Los Angeles. 323-669-1550 For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.rockwell-la.com.
