Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre (HDDT), a LA-based site-specific dance company, for the world premiere of Once in a Whale on Friday, March 23 at 8:30 pm. The performance will incorporate the "Design Is Global" theme of PDC's annual WESTWEEK with choreography focused around the center's architectural qualities.
HDDT's Once in A Whale will be divided into four sections - Fall, Summer, Winter, and Spring - allowing guests to enjoy pieces of the full performance while navigating throughout the PDC's elaborate Center Blue. Once in A Whale will express and focus on global climate concerns and the importance of human bonds, aligning with HDDT's 2018 commitment to the environment.
Directed and choreographed by founder Heidi Duckler, the performance will include five professional company dancers, including Tess Hewlett, Jillian Meyers, Ryan Page, Himerria Wortham and Raymond Ejiofor. Mimi Haddon, a frequent collaborator with Heidi Duckler, has designed the costumes and fabric set pieces. Contemporary violinist Yvette Holzwarth and percussionist Nick Hon have created the original sound score in response to the dancers and space.
"Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre's engagement with design and architecture deconstructs Pacific Design Center's vibrant interior life and energy, its inhabitants joyfully Once in a Whale," said Helen Varola, curator of arts programming for the PDC.
This performance is made possible with funding from the City of West Hollywood's WeHo Arts Program.
