GREENWAY ARTS ALLIANCE, Artistic Directors, Whitney Weston and Pierson Blaetz present, as part of Greenway's Workshop Series, a Workshop Production of CARDBOARD CAPITAL, written by Gabriel Rivas Gomez, directed by Madeleine Dahm and produced by Ty Donaldson. CARDBOARD CAPITAL will open on Thursday, May 1 at 8pm for ten performances only through Sunday, May 18 at the Greenway Court Theatre, 544 North Fairfax Avenue in Hollywood.

In celebration of the 75th anniversary of and inspired by John Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath," CARDBOARD CAPITAL takes a look at today's problems of immigration, commercialization, unionization and plight of the blue collar worker in today's megaconglomerations of Walmart-esque, Amazonian super stores. A pair of homeless people, one deaf and the other pregnant and illegal, are desperate and need a place to work in an upside down economy. They find work in a warehouse that preys on people like them and they realize that the boxes they pack have more worth than the vagabonds who pack them. Their only hope might be to form community with people who don't even have a common language. CARDBOARD CAPITAL goes to the heart of what is Family and Community in today's virtual world.

GABRIEL RIVAS GOMEZ (Playwright) received his MFA in Dramatic Writing from USC in 2007, where he was mentored by Oliver Mayer, Velina Hasu Houston and Luis Alfaro. His plays CHASING MONSTERS and SCAR TISSUE were produced at Company of Angels in downtown Los Angeles. SCAR TISSUE was subsequently published in The Best American Short Plays of 2010-2011. His plays have been taught, read and performed at numerous universities across the country. His work has been called everything from surreal, to abstract to unstageable. When he is not busy writing or teaching, he can often be found play-dohing with his daughters who, along with his wife, Elsie, are the source of his drive and strength.
