Girl Theatre Group Presents The Official V-Day Hollywood Benefit Performance Of THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES Image

On Saturday, February 17 and Saturday, February 24, 2018, at 6:30 p.m., Girl Theatre Group will present a two-night benefit performance of Eve Ensler's award winning play The Vagina Monologues at iO West, 6366 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90028. iO West is home to LA's best improv and scripted comedy shows and classes.

The New York Times called The Vagina Monologues, "probably the most important piece of political theater of the last decade." The play - first performed Off-Broadway and in locations around the world by Ms. Ensler - dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement in women's experiences. The performances are directed and produced by Joy Haven, with Sabina Medina as Co-Director, Rachel Richardville as Stage Manager, Dylan Carlson as Technical Director, and featuring a cast of local Los Angeles actresses including Crystle Lightning (Days of our Lives, American Pie, Southland), and Colleen Doyle, Cast Member and Training Center Director, iO West Theatre.

Over the past two decades, tens of thousands of communities and college campuses have staged V-Day benefit performances of The Vagina Monologues in over 200 countries and territories. V-Day activists have raised consciousness, changed laws to protect women and girls, funded rape crisis centers and domestic violence shelters, educated their communities, and raised well over $100 million in urgently needed funds for groups doing the essential work of ending violence and serving survivors and their families. For its 20th anniversary, V-Day is calling on activists around the world to Rise, Resist and Unite.

"We are proud to launch Girl Theatre Group with our performance of The Vagina Monologues," Says Joy Haven, Director, Producer, and Cast Member. "Productions like these are more relevant now than ever in a time when the conversation on women's rights is being refreshed by movements such as Me Too and Times Up. The cast is excited to perform this classic work that features the monologues of women that are as poignant now as they were then. I am thrilled to be working with these women and co-directing with one of my best friends, Sabina Medina."

Tickets are now on sale here and benefit Peace Over Violence, an "organization dedicated to building healthy relationships, families, and communities free from sexual, domestic, and interpersonal violence." The event is for ages 21 and up, and a vagina-themed pre-show mingle will start at 6:00 p.m. at the iO West bar before the show starts at 6:30 p.m. For more information about the event, contact GirlTheatreGroup@gmail.com or visit http://www.Facebook.com/GirlTheatreGroup.

ABOUT GIRL THEATRE GROUP

Girl Theatre Group is a sister Production Company of PennHaven Productions. Women have few spaces in the theater industry to truly shine on their own, and Girl Theatre Group's mission is to bring them to the forefront to highlight their writing and acting. In an era of increasingly hostile attitudes towards women, and with the rise of movements focused on combating sexual harassment and assault, women now need their own platforms to tell their stories and voice their issues in order to take a stand against anti-woman attitudes and promote women's rights. In turn, Girl Theatre Group supports charities and organizations that benefit women's issues so they can continue their important work.
