Mount Vernon, a play by Rena Brannan that enjoyed an acclaimed run at this year's Hollywood Fringe Festival, will return to the Hudson Guild for four weeks only, it was announced today. Directed by Peter Marc Jacobson and featuring Sophie Ward and Brandon Ruiter, Mount Vernon will play one preview performance on Friday, August 26 at 8pm and is set to open on Saturday, August 27. The limited engagement will run through September 18 only.

The play asks: what if you're holding a gun? What if you're holding a gun and you're six years old? You can't possibly know that killing someone is forever, can you? Running time is 60 minutes.

Playwright Rena Brannan's works explore the power and circumstance of tyranny. In 2014 she became one of the founding members of Arcola Theatre's Middle Eastern, Asian, and North African writers group. She was a member of the Critical Mass Writers' Program at The Royal Court. Her work has been performed at Soho Theatre (38th Parallel), Studio One Deptford (Lawyers, Guns and Money, WAR24), Royal Court Wilson Studio (Sidekick), and Birmingham Conservatoire (My Dead Brother Wears White). Brannan co-produced Henry Green's Nothing at the 59 E 59 Theater in NYC for the annual Brit's Off Broadway Festival. She has written and directed two short films, Missing Link and Special Features. Her play The Cu*ts will be produced at the Finsbury Park Theatre in 2017.

Director Peter Marc Jacobson began his career in front of the camera, guest starring in such memorable series as Murphy Brown, Beverly Hills 90210, The Facts of Life, Dynasty, Too Close for Comfort, Booker, and Matlock. He and his then wife Fran Drescher created, wrote, and executive produced The Nanny on CBS for six years. He then served as executive producer on the feature film Beautician and the Beast and co-executive producer of WB's What I Like About You (on which he also directed several episodes). Jacobson was executive producer of TV Land's Happily Divorced, a series he co-created with Fran Drescher based on their 18-year marriage which ended after Jacobson told Drescher he is gay. Recently, he has written for ABC Family's Young and Hungry.

The scenic design for Mount Vernon is by Charlotte Malmlof, the lighting design is by Steve Pope, and the costume design is by Brenda Cooper.

Mount Vernon will play one preview performance on Friday, August 26 at 8pm. Opening is set for Saturday, August 27 at 8pm. The running schedule will be Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 3pm through September 18 only. There will be no performance on Thursday, September 15. Tickets are $20 and are available online at www.plays411.com/mountvernon or by phone at (323) 960-7784. The Hudson Guild is located at 6539 Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood, 90038.
