The U.S. premiere of The Train Driver by Athol Fugard will extend at The Fountain Theatre through January 30.
A mesmerizing, transforming and deeply personal journey into the human soul, Fugard calls The Train Driver, "The most important play I've ever written." Morlan Higgins stars as a traumatized train driver tormented by a nightmare that has shattered his life - until he is awakened by an extraordinary stranger, portrayed by Adolphus Ward.
The premiere at the Fountain has received over a dozen rave reviews, including the LA Weekly: "GO! [A] powerful new play...director Stephen Sachs' character-driven production is stunning;" Back Stage: "Critic's Pick...a fine and meticulous production;" and Talkin' Broadway: "Beautifully directed and performed." In the Los Angeles Times, Charles McNulty wrote, "A fascinating tale... poetic... rich thematic material, engaging questions of guilt, justice and the difficulty of renewal."
