San Francisco based Firescape Theatre and Yolk Productions in association with The Beverly Hills Playhouse has announced Rob Zimmerman as director of a remounting of their award winning Yellow Face by David Henry Hwang.
Starting with Equity summer stock theatre at age eleven, Zimmerman has worked and trained with some of theatre's truly great directors, including Jack O'Brien, Tony Richardson, Des McAnuff and Milton Katselas. He has also created San Francisco's premiere acting school, BHP of San Francisco and is the Creative Director of Firescape Theatre.
This production of Yellow Facegarnered nods from the Bay Area Theatre Critics for Best San Francisco Play and Best Play Bay Area. "This play was a tremendous success in San Francisco. As luck would have it, five of the original seven cast members have relocated to LA and, naturally, we looked into bringing the show back in LA,"said Zimmerman, adding, "We were stunned when found this show hasn't had a serious mounting in LA since East-West and the Center Theatre premiered the piece in 2007. So, this was a no brainer, especially given the current climate in Hollywood regarding diversity."
A play where truth and fiction blur, the hilarious and biting Yellow Faceis based on the author's own life. When Hwang mistakenly makes a disastrous casting decision, he quickly gets in over his head. As the situation spirals further out of control, he finds himself at the center of a government intrigue and investigation.
Yellow Face opens Friday, August 10th, at the Beverly Hills Playhouse and runs through September 26th. Performances will be Friday & Saturday 8:00PM and Sunday 2:00PM.
