Moth storyteller Brian Finkelstein is set to bring his comic solo show First Day Off In A Long Time to the Steve Allen Theater for four performances only, it was announced today. First Day Off In A Long Time is directed by Adam Swartz and opens tonight, October 1 at 8pm. The run continues on Wednesdays only, October 8, 15, and 22 at 8pm.
First Day Off In A Long Time is a comic solo show. About suicide. Written and performed by Moth storyteller Brian Finkelstein, it tells the true tale of the four years he volunteered at a New York City suicide hotline. The story winds its way to Finkelstein's own failed suicide attempt, a call from his ex-girlfriend about Spalding Gray, and finally to a call from a 19-year-old college student that changed Finkelstein's life.
Writer/Performer Brian Finkelstein is a regular performer at The Upright Citizens Brigade in Los Angeles as well as a storyteller and host of the Moth Storytelling Series. He has performed his solo shows in a variety of venues from the HBO/US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen to the 2014 Summer Nights Festival in Perth, Australia and New Zealand. Finkelstein is also an Emmy Award-nominated writer for his work on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Most recently he was published in the Moth: 50 True Stories (Hyperion), he developed a TV show for Universal, and he has been writing a blog for The Huffington Post. Finkelstein is currently working on his first book.
