Emily's Army debut album Don't Be A Dick is out today, June 14th on Adeline Records. The East Bay pop-punk group will kick off their tour on June 18th in Kelso, WA. Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong produced the album.
Emily's Army is comprised of
Max Becker on bass, Cole Becker on guitar, Travis Neumann on guitar, and drummer Joey Armstrong. Co-songwriters Max and Cole share vocal duties on the album. At the ripe age of 15, 16 and 17 years old, the Oakland-based band has already spent two years touring up and down the West Coast. The band's name comes from Max and Cole's 15 year-old cousin Emily, who was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis in 1998 and has suffered from the disease her entire life. In tribute, the band adopted the name Emily's Army, which also happens to be the moniker for a fundraising organization in their cousin's honor.
Early praise on the band and the album include:
"Boisterous punk... a snappy and simple jam"
-SPIN
"Take note: Emily's Army is going to be big. And it's not just because their producer is
Green Day's
Billie Joe Armstrong, or because Billie Joe is the father of the band's drummer. It's because their debut Don't Be a Dickhas the same brash, young catchiness early
Green Day albums had."
-OC Weekly
"Don't Be A Dick is overwhelmingly tight and poppy; quite impressive for the young pups they are. When considering that these songs were written by kids barely in high school, it's a bit of a jaw-dropper."
- Alternative Press
"They'll soon be one of your favorite bands, it's only a matter of time."
- The Audio Perv
"The California quartet deliver raggedly sharp guitar licks and plenty of
humor."
- Entertainment Weekly
"Emily's Army is well on their way to finding out what power and potential is there for the taking in the years ahead."
-Verbicide
"With members ranging between 15 and 17 years old, this first set of pop-punk songs is brash, cheeky and funny - pretty much like early
Green Day."
- Chicago Sun Times
"A coherent and well-played group of songs."
-SF Weekly
"Before you cry punk rock nepotism, Emily's Army sound pretty good. Well, they sound like Gilman Street 1994-which, ironically, might be exact time and location of where they were conceived."
-Portland Mercury
Now Don't Be a Dick and go see them play!!!!!!
