Broadway by the Bay ends their 2018 season with four-time Tony Award winning Elton John + Tim Rice's AIDA. In the time of Pharaohs, a beautiful Nubian princess is taken from her land. But when a bond between her and the future ruler of Egypt grows, loyalties are tested, and both must question their true heart's desire. From the Broadway legends that brought you The Lion King, Evita, and Billy Elliot comes this epic tale of love and courage.
AIDA features a soaring score by pop legend Sir Elton John, one of the most successful pop music artists in the modern era. Lyrics are by Sir Tim Rice who has penned blockbusters including Aladdin, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Beauty and the Beast, and countless others. The book is by Linda Woolverton and Robert Falls, and David Henry Hwang.
"AIDA has a spiritual center that speaks to us about the power of love and redemption, and the transcendence of the spirit." says Executive Artistic Director, Alicia Jeffrey. "We examine how these characters are torn between personal passion and political responsibility, and how love can transcend hate and ancient division. While there is no easy answer to these challenges, AIDA shows us that love can effect change, even major social change. The score is absolutely stunning and the cast is stellar. It's the perfect way to end this season of transformation!"
