The scene: A gate area at JFK. One by one, we meet our five disparate women (all in their 40s), strangers to each other, who come in with their own prejudices, uninformed judgments and incorrect projections of one another, based initially, and reflexively, upon what they happen to be wearing on their feetThe last to arrive is sexy yoga instructor CARLY, who appalls the other women with a cell phone conversation with some once-and-future-paramour in Hawaii, where she is clearly heading for a wild weekend of what the other women are sure would have to be earth-shattering sex. Carly, at last noticing the other women gawking at her envy-inducing interchange, sheepishly ends her call. AMY, attempting to engage the other women, questions Carly about her "hot sexy weekend." Carly confesses to a life of "sweet freedom," but becomes elusive about a deeper secret she seems to be hiding. JULIA, a sharp-witted, sharper-tongued career woman, reveals her problems with her husband, teenage daughter, and cutthroat career and Amy, a mother of two who appears to be carrying around secrets of her own, begins to bond with her.
HAVING IT ALMOST was presented at the New York Musical Theatre Festival in New York City in 2006.
El Portal Forum Theatre is located at 5269 Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood, CA.
