Egan, Nimoy et al. Set for Carpenter Performing Arts Center's '10-'11 Season

During a special preview event last night, the Carpenter Performing Arts Center of Long Beach announced its 2010-2011 season which includes a wide variety of performances. Included in the line-up are Broadway veteren Susan Egan, and the music of Pink Floyd and Leonard Nimoy.

The Wit & Wisdom Series will begin with comedian Garrison Keillor on Sept. 22, followed by David Birney's stage adaptation of stories by Mark Twain, "The Diaries of Adam & Eve," on January 29. A reading by Billy Collins, the former U.S. poet laureate will finish off the series on May 21.

CPAC's Cabaret Series opens with Broadway's Susan Egan with performances September 29-30, followed by jazz singer Allan Harris performing "A Nat King Cole Christmas"  December 15-16.The Mighty Echoes, an a capella doo wop group, will perform January 26-27, and Susan Werner will conclude the series on April 20-21. The first non-subscription event at the Carpenter Centerwill feature Star Trek's Leonard Nimoy reminiscing about his career on October 23.

The Carpenter Performing Arts Center at California State University, Long Beach engages its community through artistic, educational and cultural experiences that enrich lives, promote lifelong learning in and through the performing arts, and serve as a gateway between the university and greater community.

Built in 1994, the Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center is a 1,074-seat theatre located on the campus of California State University, Long Beach. The stage area was modeled after the New York State Theater of the Arts at Lincoln Center, and can accommodate large or small performing ensembles, film screenings, concerts, conferences and other special events.

 Each season the Carpenter Center presents a variety of music, dance, family, comedy, and cabaret events, as well as commissions new works by some of the country's leading artists and ensembles. With world premieres, Broadway favorites, and world-class artists, the Carpenter Center has something for everyone.
