On Saturday, August 16th, East West Players (EWP), the nation's largest producing organization of Asian American artistic work and the longest-running professional theatre of color in the country, kicks off their Golden 50th Anniversary Season with the first of many planned celebrations with their signature "one night only" event, featuring the new generation of Asian Pacific musical performers. Fresh Faces, Golden Voices takes place at East West Players. Celebrity Chef Katie Chin (PBS' "Double Happiness," "Iron Chef America") collaborates with Food Fetish Catering on a unique Pan Asian dining experience al fresco, with special desserts donated by Majestic Caterers. Proceeds of One Night Only benefit the artistic/educational programs of East West Players.
"East West Players is the granddaddy of all Asian American theaters across the country celebrating our 50th Anniversary," says Producing Artistic Director Tim Dang, "and we want to introduce you to the new generation of Asian Pacific Islander entertainers that continue to come through our doors with increasing talent and opportunity. Celebrating our milestone 50th Anniversary event with this benefit will ensure the continued strength of our artistic productions, provide opportunities for Asian American artists to perform and showcase their talent, and support the future of a robust and diverse theatre community in Los Angeles."
The evening's mistress and master of ceremony are actors Amy Hill ("That's So Raven," 50 First Dates) and Parvesh Cheena ("Outsourced," Barbershop) Confirmed performers include vocalists Jaime Barcelon, Hajin Cho, Jan Colby, Carissa Dizon, Belle Hengsathorn, Kacey Mayeda, Erika Mariko Olsen, Reuben Uy, and Charlotte Mary Wen with dancers Angel Feliciano, Liezel Marie, Jonathan Kim, Rich Kim, and Shanling Yang.
The show is directed by Marilyn Tokuda, with Marc Macalintal as musical director and Jonathan Kim as choreographer.
One Night Only: Fresh Faces, Golden Voices will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the East West Players David Henry Hwang Theater at the Union Center for the Arts, located at 120 Judge John Aiso St., Los Angeles, CA 90012. The event starts at 6:00pm with a hosted bar, reception and dinner. It continues with the performance at 7:30pm, and concludes with a raffle drawing and dessert reception. One Night Only: Fresh Faces, Golden Voices is a benefit performance. Various levels of sponsorships are available ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.
