This summer, mind-bending trivia and messy physical challenges aren't just for kids. After the exciting announcement of Nickelodeon's Double Dare TV Show returning this summer, Hollywood Fringe's venue Studio/Stage has a special surprise for audiences in June -- they will be host to Double Dare-inspired live game show: Buzz'd Out Live!
Clever, entertaining and just plain wild, Buzz'd Out! is a popular game show that currently airs on The Arroyo Channel. Like Double Dare, the show pairs crazy challenges with mindboggling trivia. In each round, contestants must buzz in to answer trivia questions on a variety of topics. BUT, the buzzers aren't always the most obvious. Sometimes they're a physical challenge, like hitting a target with a pool noodle dart. Other times, they're ridiculous. Like touching a dead fish...with your face. This live version will have new challenges, new questions, and new contestants with each performance, along with a few tricks from the creator and host, accomplished magician and mind reader Ben Benjamins.
"It's a crazy live game show that's wacky and a ton of fun," Benjamins said. "And the best part is that the audience becomes part of this crazy TV game show brought to life on stage. We pull out all the stops, including contestant outfits, a smooth-talking announcer, and the chance for our audience to compete and win a whole slew of 'fabulous' prizes!"
Since its inception, the Hollywood Fringe Festival has earned its reputation as a place where local artists can come experiment and experience, offering non-traditional theatre at its finest. But in the festival's history, never has it seen a live game show...or at least one that was anything like Buzz'd Out Live! Attending audiences will be able to get in on the action. Fringe patrons will have a chance to sign up to be randomly selected as a contestant each performance. But contestants, be warned: they might (probably will) get dirty!
Benjamins and Executive Producer Roe Moore are bringing the show to Fringe to not only play with a new format, but also to increase awareness of the show and attract a new audience.
"We're excited to bring a game show to Fringe, the first of its kind," said Executive Producer Roe Moore. "We hope audiences walk away entertained, a little smarter and a little messier than when they arrived. This is a step in our journey to bringing Buzz'd Out! to a much wider audience."
Though it's just getting started, Buzz'd Out has already built a following through the show's partnership with Pasadena Media, airing on the Arroyo Channel as well as with episodes on YouTube. Corporate sponsors are also on board, including 21Choices and The Pizza Press, which provide prizes for contestants.
"If audience members have always wanted to be on a messy, fun, wild and crazy game show from their childhood, this is their chance," Benjamins said. "We just want everyone here to have a good time and to see what Buzz'd Out is all about. Get ready!"
