La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts is thrilled to announce the fifth production of National Theatre Live's second season - broadcast live from The Donmar Warehouse in London, internationally acclaimed actor Derek Jacobi stars as KING LEAR. KING LEAR will be broadcast on SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 20 at 2pm at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, 14900 La Mirada Blvd. in La Mirada.
Derek Jacobi's hugely acclaimed performance as Shakespeare's KING LEAR will be seen in cinemas and performing arts venues around the world when the Donmar Warehouse's sell-out production, directed by Michael Grandage, is filmed live at the Donmar's home in London's Covent Garden.
The cast also includes Pippa Bennett-Warner (Cordelia), Ron Cook (The Fool), Paul Jesson (Gloucester), Gwilym Lee (Edmund), Gina McKee (Goneril), Justine Mitchell (Regan) and Alec Newman (Edgar).
An ageing monarch. A kingdom divided. A child's love rejected. As Lear's world descends into chaos, all that he once believed is brought into question. One of the greatest works in western literature, KING LEAR explores the very nature of human existence: love and duty, power and loss, good and evil.
Derek Jacobi's long and distinguished career includes his Olivier Award-winning performance as Malvolio in Michael Grandage's production of Twelfth Night (Donmar West End) and A Voyage Round My Father (Donmar and Wyndham's Theatre). Jacobi's other theatre work includes Don Carlos (Sheffield Crucible and Gielgud Theatre), The Tempest (Sheffield Crucible and Old Vic) - both directed by Michael Grandage, and Hollow Crown (RSC). Renowned for his role as Claudius in I Claudius, his recent screen credits include Gosford Park and Gladiator.
KING LEAR marks National Theatre LIVE'S second collaboration with another British theatre company, following the highly successful broadcast of Complicite's A Disappearing Number last year. National Theatre LIVE performances are filmed live in high definition and broadcast via satellite to over 300 cinemas around the world, live in Europe and some US cities, and time-delayed in countries further afield. There are over 75 venues in the UK alongside venues in the USA, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Scandinavia and Europe.
