Director Jack Sydow Dies at 88

Director, actor, playwright, and professor Jack Sydow has died, Variety reports. Sydow died on May 28 in Los Angeles, at the age of eighty-eight.

Sydow's directing credits include the 1967 Broadway revival of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, starring Ethel Merman, for which he was nominated for a Tony Award.  He also directed THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV, which he adapted for the stage and for which he won an Obie Award, as well as the 1959 national tour of ONCE UPON A MATTRESS and productions of Mary Stuart, ELIZABETH THE QUEEN, RING ROUND THE MOON, and THE CRUCIBLE. 

Sydow's acting credits include 'Frasier,' 'Touched by an Angel,' and 'Brothers and Sisters.'  Sydow was the head of the University of Washington's directing program.  

Donations to the Actors Fund of America are being made in his honor.
