Academy Award-nominated actor Demián Bichir will host Noche de Cine, a concert of Mexican film music performed live-to-picture by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, on Friday, October 13 at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Mariachi Sol de México de José Hernández and La Marisoul from the Grammy-award winning group La Santa Cecilia will also join the performance. Demián Bichir was nominated for the 2012 Academy Award in the Best Actor category for his role in Chris Weitz's A Better Life, and is also known for his roles in The Hateful Eight, Alien: Covenant, and FX's The Bridge. He resides in Mexico City and Los Angeles.
Noche de Cine will present a diverse retrospective of Mexican film music spanning the Golden Age to the present day. Selections will range from classics sung by Jorge Negrete and Pedro Infante, to music from films like Pan's Labyrinth, Amores Perros and Biutiful. The program will also include a Mexican horror movie montage, as well as the world premiere of a clip from Carlos Reygadas' current work-in-progress with music by Gabriela Ortiz. Reygadas, who is one of Mexico's most prominent directors, producers and screenwriters, won the Best Director Award at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival for his film Post Tenebras Lux. Noche de Cine is co-curated by four-time Academy Award-winning director, writer and producer Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Morelia Film Festival Director Daniela Michel.
