De Lucia Media/Films brings Waiting for Whitey to the Screen, inspired by the life of Whitey Bulger.
Waiting For Whitey, a theatrical feature inspired by famed Boston mob boss Whitey Bulger, adapted by George MacDonald from his acclaimed stage play of the same name, has been acquired by Cesar Villacis De Lucia and De Lucia Media/Films, in conjunction with Gary Blumsack and Hayworth Theatrical.
Waiting for Whitey is the second film project for De Lucia. The Devil’s in the Details, starring Ray Liotta and Emilio Rivera, co-executive produced by Cesar Villacis De Lucia, was successfully sold domestically at 2012 Cannes International Film Festival. The film was acquired by Image Entertainment, Inc.
The stage play, Waiting For Whitey, premiered in March 1997 at Boston’s Landsdowne Street Playhouse. It subsequently received a development staging at Hayworth Theatre’s Bruno Kirby Celebrity Reading Series in Los Angeles, featuring thesps Dan Lauria (Broadway’s Lombardi, TV’s Sullivan and Son), Michael Rapaport (Boston Public), Dayton Callie (Deadwood) and Paul Ben-Victor (Entourage), helmed by Blumsack. Encouraged by the play’s cinematic potential, MacDonald scripted the screenplay.
