On Friday, July 16 at 8 pm the stars will come out for a one-time only benefit performance of CARRY IT ON! Great American moments in word and song, compiled by Theatricum artistic director Ellen Geer. Celebrities including James Cromwell, Amy Madigan, Michael O'Neill, Jordan Belfi, and Christina Pickles will perform the actual speeches, songs and poetry of great Americans such as Abraham Lincoln; Martin Luther King, Jr.; Mark Twain; Walt Whitman; Rosa Parks; Mother Jones; and others who helped shape our country. It's an inspiring celebration of our past, a positive look toward our future, and a part of our collective history that cannot be forgotten. Celebrate our forefathers and mothers in the joyous telling of their stories and sacrifices, and help us pass this vital history on to the next generation. CARRY IT ON! will continue for eight additional performances from August 7 through September 26, featuring Theatricum company members.
The summer celebration continues with Theatricum's annual performance of The Woody Guthrie Story on Friday, July 23 at 8 pm. Legendary singer/songwriter Woody Guthrie, Will Geer and Herta Ware fought for social justice and workers' rights by singing, strumming and shouting out. On his frequent visits to Theatricum, Guthrie stayed in the shack at the entrance to the main stage where he wrote, painted and doodled, creating the Topanga Notebooks. Join the Geer family and friends as they tell the tale of Guthrie's life. Sing along to "This Land Is Your Land" and other songs that helped shape our national identity.
Closing out the series on Saturday, September 4 at 3 pm is acclaimed singer/songwriter Inara George (of The Bird and the Bee) and her cadre of talented musician friends interpreting the tunes of Grammy Award-winning recording artist and songwriter Dolly Parton.
