Coyote StageWorks is wrapping up its hugely successful 2012/13 Season at the Annenberg Theater with TRU, the award-winning play about Truman Capote, by the outstanding American screenwriter, playwright, stage director, television producer and novelist, Jay Presson Allen. Allen, who also wrote MARNIE, THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODY, CABARET, FUNNY LADY and more, was said to have been at first hesitant to write a play about Truman Capote, who she had met but did not know. In the end, though, her work was praised by everyone, including Capote's family, as accurately portraying one of America's most controversial authors in his last years.
Set in 1975, TRU takes place in Truman Capote's magnificent New York Apartment where he lives in exile, having been shunned by his elite, Manhattan social circle for telling the world their most intimate secrets in Esquire magazine. Adapted from Capote's own words and work, this devastatingly witty play is a truthful portrait of the complex and often wildly colorful author, who found world fame with IN COLD BLOOD, BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S and A CHRISTMAS MEMORY among others.
Coyote StageWorks is fortunate to be one of the few theatre companies granted the rights to perform TRU since its premier in 1989. Desert Star Award winning actor and CSW's Artistic Director, Chuck Yates will be playing the title role in TRU. "I've waited 24 years to play this role," said Yates. "The opportunity to play this literary icon during an extremely difficult time of his life is a rewarding challenge of a lifetime."
The Coyote StageWorks production of TRU runs from April 19 through 28, 2013 at the Annenberg Theater. Tickets are prices from $39-$55 and are available at www.annenbergtheater.org or by calling 760-325-4490
