Coeurage Theatre Company Presents VENDETTA CHROME By Sylvan Oswald ImageCoeurage Theatre Company, LA's Pay What You Want theatre company, has announced the final production of its ninth season, Vendetta Chrome by Sylvan Oswald, directed by Sara Lyons. There will be one preview performance on Friday, November 23, at 8pm and opening is set for Saturday, November 24, at 8pm. Vendetta Chrome will play through December 15 at the Lex Theatre in Hollywood.

The cast will feature (in alphabetical order) Diona Elise Burnett, Katie Canavan, Provvidenza Catalano, Nicole Monet, Elena Murray, Marta Portillo, Tarina Pouncy, Emily Price, and Janet Song. Scenic design is by JR Bruce, lighting design is by azra King-Abadi, costume design is by Alexis Chaney, sound design is by Joseph V. Calarco, and movement is by Milka Djordjevich. The production stage manager is Rachel Shanblatt.

Vendetta, a late bloomer at a Victorian girls' school, must save her friends and family from a legacy of trouble -- and it's all in the dance moves. In the West Coast premiere of Sylvan Oswald's melodrama-farce, spirited movement sequences take a female and nonbinary cast through the lightness and the darkness of today's feminist rage. Said Variety, "Vendetta Chrome is a saucy spoof on the inane mannerisms of Victorian education for young ladies that has a pointed message."

Sylvan Oswald is an interdisciplinary artist from Philadelphia who creates plays, texts, publications, and video. Current projects include the theatrical essay Trainers and the show High Winds, based on the book of the same name which he co-authored with graphic designer Jessica Fleischmann. His lo-fi semi-improvised web series Outtakes starring Becca Blackwell and Zuzanna Szadkowski is hosted at weareopentv.com. His plays and collaborations include A Kind of Weather ( CTG, Playwrights Horizons/Clubbed Thumb Superlab), Sun Ra (Joe's Pub, Jerome Travel and Study Grant, Soho Rep Writer-Director Lab), Profanity (Undermain Theater in Dallas, Six Points Fellowship, Soho Rep Dorothy Strelsin Fellowship), Nightlands (New Georges, Full Stage Commission from New Dramatists), Pony (About Face Theater, Chicago), and Vendetta Chrome (Clubbed Thumb). Honors include the Rosati Fellowship from Duke University Libraries, the Thom Thomas Award from The Dramatists Guild, a Jerome Fellowship, and residencies at Sundance/Ucross, Macdowell Colony, and Yaddo. He is a member of CTG's Writers' Workshop, an affiliated artist at Clubbed Thumb, and an alum of New Dramatists.

Sara Lyons is a director and adapter and works frequently in adaptation, social engagement, and new media. Her work has been presented at Wild Project, Ensemble Studio Theatre, HERE Arts Center, Fordham University, Culture Project, LaMaMa ETC, Dixon Place, Edinburgh Fringe, and more. Recent work includes I'm Very Into You, an original stage adaptation of the email correspondence of Kathy Acker and McKenzie Wark, presented at Festival Special Effects 2017 and called "worth keeping an eye out for" by American Theatre Magazine; Baby Mama: One Woman's Quest to Give Her Child to Gay People by Mariah MacCarthy, which tours internationally and was called, "funny, moving, and unapologetically candid" by Time Out New York; and Medea/Shulie, an original piece colliding Euripides' Medea with the legacy of the late great activist and author Shulamith Firestone in ritual conjuring of women's rage. She is an alum of DirectorsLabChicago as well as the EMERGENYC program for political performance makers at NYU's Hemispheric Institute.

Coeurage Theatre Company exists to make impassioned theatre accessible for all audiences through Pay What You Want admission and fresh, challenging productions. The company's name is inspired by a re-imagining of the word courage - coeur is French for heart, and rage, meaning fervor; on fire. Together, Coeurage (pronounced "courage") is a heart enflamed with passion, which the company strives to bring to every production.

There will be one preview performance of Vendetta Chrome on Friday, November 23, at 8pm and opening is set for Saturday, November 24, at 8pm. The regular running schedule is Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8pm through December 15. There will be additional performances on Sunday 12/9, at 7pm and Wednesday 12/12, at 8pm.
