Classical Theatre Lab to Bring Goldoni's TROUBLE IN CHIOZZA to Kings Road Park, 7/6-28

The Classical Theatre Lab and the City of West Hollywood present TROUBLE IN CHIOZZA by Carlo Goldoni with translation by Robert Hoyem, directed by Louis Fantasia.

Set in a rustic Italian fishing village, this rollicking romp is about two rival families with daughters of marrying age and the young fishermen who come to court them. The play celebrates the triumph of love over all else.

Performances will take place in Kings Road Park, 1000 N. Kings Road, West Hollywood, Calif., July 6 through July 28. Saturdays and Sundays at 4pm. Admission free. Reservations recommended. Call (323) 960-5691 for more information.

The play was first performed at the Teatro San Luca in Venice in January 1762. In modern times, the play received a major revival at the Piccolo Teatro di Milano in 1962, in a famous production by Giorgio Strehler. The new English translation is by Robert Hoyem, edited by director Louis
Fantasia.

The cast includes Christine Avila, Carolyn Reese Crotty, Angela Dubnow, Zeljka Z. Gortinski, Dan Hillaker, Joe Hulser, TatiAna Lopez, Dex Matthews, Michael Matthys, Ernest McDaniel, Maggie Palomo, Steve Peterson, Paul David Story, and Donald Wayne.

The Classical Theatre Lab was founded in 1990 as one of several performance labs serving the Los Angeles Theater Center on Spring Street in downtown Los Angeles. The mission of The Lab was to provide a home for professional actors wishing to expand their talents through interpretation of the works of the world's greatest writers. Since that time, The Classical Theatre Lab has offered staged readings and full productions and co-productions of classical theatre, many at no charge to the public. Over the years, The Classical Theatre Lab has had productions directed by notable directors including Michael Arabian, Tony Tanner, Armin Shimerman and Louis Fantasia.

In 2007, the Lab began collaborating with the City of West Hollywood to produce a free Shakespeare play in the summer. Free Shakespeare in the Parks was launched with a production of "Two Gentlemen of Verona" directed by Stuart W. Howard and performed in Plummer Park and in West Hollywood Park. In 2008, "The Merry Wives of Windsor" directed by Carey Upton was performed in the two parks. In 2009, "Twelfth Night" directed by Armin Shimerman was performed in Plummer Park and Kings Road Park. In 2010 came "A Midsummer Night's Dream" directed by Chad Restum. 2011 saw the debut of "As You Like It, The Musical" written and directed by Tony Tanner, followed in 2012 by Tony Tanner's adaptation of "The Merchant of Venice", "Something of Silver." All were performed in both Plummer and Kings Road Parks.
