On Friday, January 11, 24th Street Theatre received a commendation from the City of Los Angeles for "fifteen distinguished years of dedication to making a difference in the lives of Angelenos and audiences around the world."

In a ceremony at City Hall, Councilmember Jan Perry presented 24th STreet artistic director Debbie Devine and executive director Jay McAdams with an official commendation recognizing 24th STreet as one of L.A.'s premier arts organizations.

"24th STreet is a first class arts organization dedicated to providing a public benefit through their award-winning outreach programs, free community events, gallery exhibits and teacher training programs," said Perry in a speech.

The councilwoman went on to praise 24th Street's service to over one million students in 30,000 classrooms through its Enter Stage Right DVD partnership, and to tens of thousands of Los Angeles students who have experienced the arts through Enter Stage Right field trips; free after school programming, provided by 24th STreet in partnership with USC, for 75 inner-city children for 30 weeks of every school year; the creation of award-winning Spanish language productions for neighborhood families that have subsequently toured across North, South and Central America; and inspirational professional development workshops that teach educators how to integrate basic performance techniques in the classroom.

The resolution to commend 24th STreet was signed by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and all 15 members of the City Council.
