City Of Los Angeles Officially Announces Stand Up To Cancer Day ImageOn Wednesday, August 29, Councilmember Paul Koretz and the City of Los Angeles commended Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) by presenting a resolution declaring Friday, September 7 as "Stand Up To Cancer Day" in the City of Los Angeles. SU2C Day is the official day of the sixth biennial SU2C telecast, which will highlight the progress being made by SU2C researchers and continue to raise awareness and funds for innovative cancer research.

SU2C also announced a collaboration with Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) to explore ways to increase awareness about and participation in clinical trials among cancer patients in medically underserved communities in Los Angeles.

"We have been so privileged to do this event with Councilmember Koretz every other year, aligned with our biennial telecast, since 2010," said Kathleen Lobb. "This year's show is especially meaningful because it marks ten years since we launched Stand Up To Cancer and ten years of life-changing, life-saving cancer research."

"Two years ago I had the honor of declaring September 9, 2016 as Stand Up To Cancer Day in Los Angeles," said Councilmember Paul Koretz. "Today we're here to do it again as Stand Up To Cancer reaches 10 years of lifesaving research achievements. That's right, a whole decade of innovative and groundbreaking transformative research, partly supported by The Stand Up To Cancer telecast."

"For more than half a century, [Charles Drew University] has been training healthcare professionals who are dedicated to health equity for underserved populations," added Jimmy Smits. "This esteemed institution is an absolutely stellar collaborator with Stand Up To Cancer, which is why I'm so honored to stand up with both of them today."

"I'm standing up because I know that there is only one way we can help people...beat this merciless disease," said Bree Turner. "And that's by supporting the kind of groundbreaking research that Stand Up To Cancer makes possible."

"By pooling our resources in one important point of collaboration, Stand Up To Cancer and Charles R. Drew University will help the Cancer Research Center at CDU increase its outreach and patient navigation efforts to get patients who can participate in and benefit from clinical trials," said Dr. David M. Carlisle.

The Hollywood community is once again uniting to support Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), a division of the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), which will stage its sixth biennial televised fundraising special on Friday, Sept. 7 (8:00 - 9:00 PM ET/PT / 7:00 PM CT).
