Chrysalis Stage will present GHOSTS, written by Henrik Ibsen, directed by Andrea & AaRon Morgan, coming to the EXPO Arts Center in Long Beach, CA, beginning August 30th, 2013.

Ghosts is one of the most controversial plays by Henrik Ibsen, a famous Norwegian dramatist, who is known for the classic plays Hedda Gabler and A Doll's House. At its scandalous premiere, the play was banned on religious grounds for references to incest and sexually transmitted diseases.

In Ghosts, young Oswald the artist returns to the home of his mother, Mrs. Alving, to dedicate an orphanage in his deceased father's name. Advised by her mentor and friend Pastor Manders to remain a dutiful wife to her philandering husband, Mrs. Alving suffered in silence until her husband's death and the return of her estranged son. Family secrets, immoral relationships, and the power of the truth are revealed over the course of the evening, leaving none of the characters unscathed or unchanged.

"I think we are all like ghosts. It is not only what we have inherited from our father and mother that 'walks' in us. It is all sorts of dead ideas, and lifeless old beliefs. They have no vitality, but they cling to us all the same, and we cannot shake them off. There must be ghosts like this all the country over, as thick as the sands of the sea. And then we are, one and all, so pitifully afraid of the light."
