The El Capitan Theatre General Manager Ed Collins said, "To celebrate 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' 80th Anniversary, The El Capitan is honored to present this very special engagement of Walt Disney's legendary masterpiece, the world's first full-length animated feature and the first in the Disney Animated Canon. It was also the first one in English, the first one in Technicolor, and the first one ever made in the United States."

Collins continued, "And it is a rare occasion that we get to see this film on the big screen, as it was meant to be seen. And in a special arrangement we will be displaying five high fashion gowns inspired by the romance of the story from the New York Saks Fifth Avenue. In every way, 'Snow White' is still the fairest of them all!"

Among the accolades, the Library of Congress in 1989 deemed the film "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" and selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry. "Snow White" is also ranked in the American Film Institute's list of the 100 greatest American films, who also named the film as the Greatest American Animated Film of All Time in 2008.

Walt Disney himself said, "I just thought it was a perfect story ... 'Snow White' started a whole new era."

Leonard Maltin said, "'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' remains a joyful experience even after 80 years. It paved the way for every Disney classic to follow, right to the present day."

Animation historian Charles Solomon said, "The principals of animation that go into character animation - the art of making the character move in a way that demonstrates his personality so that you understand who he is even when he is not speaking ... is a uniquely American art form that was largely invented at the Disney studio. We still have animated features as musicals because 'Snow White' was a musical. The idea that they should be based on fairy tales comes from 'Snow White.' The kind of story telling in 'Snow White' is still the same kind of story telling that animators aspire to in their films. It is one of the real watersheds in the history of the medium of animation."

"Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" was produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Walt Disney Productions, premiered on December 21, 1937, and was originally released in theatres by RKO Radio Pictures on February 8, 1938. The film is an adaptation of The Brothers Grimm fairy tale, in which an evil queen attempts to have her stepdaughter Snow White murdered so she could be the fairest in the land, but the girl escapes and is given shelter by seven dwarfs in their cottage in a forest.

ABOUT THE FASHIONS FROM SAKS FIFTH AVENUE, NEW YORK
New York-based designer Naeem Khan's love for ornate appliqué and intricate details led to a colorful new take on Snow White. Her timeless silhouettes reflect the culture, art and design he imbibed in Mumbai at the feet of his grandfather, who created embroidery and fabrics for Indian royal families. "The inspiration references my most recent travels to Peru," Khan says, "along with colorful embroidery ideas from my latest Fall/Winter 2017 runway collection-a modern bohemian princess inspired by the cultures of the world."

Beloved for her ethereal yet whimsical designs, Monique Lhuillier created a playful princess gown. Growing up on Cebu Island in the Philippines, Lhuillier was exposed to the glamour of her cosmopolitan parents' elegant soirées, an enduring influence on her designs. Her Snow White gown comprises hundreds of yards of hand-embroidered white silk tulle, rich velvet and draping strands of pearls and crystal beads-but with a high-low hem allowing her princess to keep up with the Dwarfs while conquering evil. A mysterious embroidered skull, symbolizing Snow White's sleeping death, flashes a gemstone smile at the back of the bodice, while a ruby-red poisonous apple channels the darker side of this fairy-tale princess.

>From puffed princess sleeves to the midnight-blue hand-embroidered cape enveloping her vision of Snow White, Alberta Ferretti revealed her most romantic, fanciful daydreams. Inspired by her native Italy's heritage of refined craftsmanship, Ferretti is known for intricate embroidery and gossamer fabrics. Her Snow White's diaphanous dress of silk organza is traced with intricate star embroidery. The velvet cape is hand-embroidered with an image of the Prince's castle, bordered in white feathers and tied with a red ribbon at the neck.

TINY TOT TUESDAY
The El Capitan Theatre will also host a very special Tiny Tot Tuesday on Tuesday, February 6. During this special screening, parents and small children may enjoy the movie in a tot-friendly way-with lights dimmed rather than out and reduced sound levels.

ABOUT THE EL CAPITAN THEATRE
Declared a Historic Cultural Monument by the City of Los Angeles and restored to showcase its original lavish architecture, The El Capitan Theatre has been since 1991 an exclusive first run theatre, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, for The Walt Disney Studios. The theatre also hosts live stage shows, world premieres, special events, and screenings of classic Disney films.

In the 1920s, real estate developer Charles Toberman and Sid Grauman built the Egyptian, Chinese and El Capitan theatres. Los Angeles based Stiles O. Clements designed the elaborate cast-concrete Spanish Colonial style exterior; San Francisco architect G. Albert Lansburgh, known for his design of over 50 West Coast theatres and luxury cinema houses, designed the lavish East Indian inspired interior. Originally a legitimate theatre (over 120 plays and musicals were staged), it was converted for film for the world premiere of Orson Welles' Citizen Kane. The theatre then was renovated, reopening in March 1942 as the Hollywood Paramount, a streamlined "art moderne" first run movie house.

In 1989, the Walt Disney Company joined forces with Pacific Theatres and launched a two-year, museum quality restoration of The El Capitan, led by renowned theatre designer Joseph J. Musil. Musil with the supervision of the National Park Service's Department of the Interior, and guidance from conservator Martin Weil and architect Ed Fields, achieved the goal recreating the original 1926 look and feel -- including original design elements such as the ornate plasterwork found hidden behind walls and the opera boxes in the main auditorium.
