Carrie Fisher, who played the iconic role of Princess Leia in the original
Star Wars trilogy and who also has a notable career as a writer, will debut her one-woman show
Wishful Drinking at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles beginning October 6th. The show will open on October 14th for a run through December 17th.

Wishful Drinking,: according to press notes, which will focus on her "unusual childhood
(as) the daughter of Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher, the rise to
movie icon as Princess Leia, her marriage to
Paul Simon, the release of
her hit movie
Postcards From the Edge starring
Meryl Streep... to drug
addiction, bipolar disorder, motherhood, having a child with a man who
forgot to tell her he was gay...and her ultimate triumph over
adversity."
Joshua Ravetch will direct.
The actress has also appeared in films such as
Wonderland, Heartbreakers, Soapdish, Sibling Rivalry, When Harry Met Sally, Hannah and Her Sisters, Garbo Talks, The Blues Brothers and
Shampoo. The 1990 film
Postcards of the Edge (loosely based on her relationship with Reynolds) was based on her novel, while
The Best Awful, Surrender the Pink and
Delusions of Grandma are among her other books.
The Geffen Playhouse will next present Sam Shephard's
The God of Hell from June 20th through July 30th.
