In honor of Women's History Month, the California African American Museum (CAAM) will present An Evening with Kathleen McGhee Anderson on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at 7 p.m., 600 State Drive, Exposition Park.

A gifted and versatile television writer, playwright and producer, Anderson is the first African American female television writer. Anderson's career commenced in the writer's room of "Little House on the Prairie," with the help of the late actor Michael Landon . She later went on to write for many popular TV sitcoms such as "Amen," "Benson," "227," "Gimme A Break" and "The Cosby Show," among others.

"CAAM recognizes Kathleen McGhee Anderson's outstanding career as a writer and storyteller of African American culture across numerous mediums," said Elise Woodson, CAAM Education Curator. "We applaud her talent and most importantly the grace and dignity ever so prevalent throughout her illustrious body of work," Woodson continued. In addition to Anderson's TV writing work, her film credits include projects for Columbia Pictures, Paramount Motion Pictures, Bruckheimer Films and Twentieth Century Fox Films. No stranger to the stage, Anderson's theatrical works have earned her the honor of being selected twice as a Eugene O' Neill Playwright by the prestigious Eugene O'Neill Theater Center in Waterford, Connecticut.

Shirley Jo Finney, an award-winning actor and director, will moderate An Evening with Kathleen McGhee Anderson. Finney will explore Anderson's groundbreaking career, as well as her impact on the career of other female TV writers of color, including Shonda Rhimes, writer and creator of the hit ABC television series "Scandal" and "Grey's Anatomy."

An Evening with Kathleen McGhee Anderson, is free and open to the public. RSVPs are preferred at (213) 744-2024. Parking is $10 in the lot adjacent to CAAM at Figueroa and 39th St. For more information about CAAM visit www.caamuseum.org.
