"A Pretty Filthy Evening," a special one-night-only cabaret created by The Civilians, and a reading of the new play "The Opponent" by Brett Neveu, will be presented in February 2011 as part of DouglasPlus programming at Center Theatre Group's Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City.

"A Pretty Filthy Evening," subtitled "Real Stories (and Songs) from the Folks Who Make Adult Entertainment," will be presented in the main theatre Saturday, February 5 at 9 p.m.

"The Opponent," directed by David Fofi, will have readings in the rehearsal room of the Douglas Theatre on Sunday, February 13 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

"A Pretty Filthy Evening" is a fun night of music and monologues created in conjunction with The Civilians' new project, commissioned by CTG, about the adult entertainment industry.

The cabaret will also feature porn charades, prizes and special guest stars. The event is for ages 18 and up.

The award-winning New York-based theatre company is known for investigating real life topics, including America's evangelical Christian movement in "This Beautiful City" presented at the Douglas in 2008.  For this current project, The Civilians have spent more than a year in Las Vegas and the San Fernando Valley gathering stories from directors, performers, agents and producers about the dirty movie business.

This research will eventually become The Civilians' new musical, "Pretty Filthy," directed by Steve Cosson, with book by Bess Wohl and music and lyrics by Michael Friedman ("Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson"). The DouglasPlus cabaret presentation of "A Pretty Filthy Evening" provides an early look at the development of the new musical.

Brett Neveu's new play "The Opponent" is set in a Louisiana boxing gym as a young fighter and his hard-bitten trainer navigate their combative relationship while preparing for a do-or-die fight that ends up changing the direction of both of their lives.

Tickets for "A Pretty Filthy Evening" are $25 ($10 for Douglas season ticket holders). Tickets for the reading of "The Opponent" are $10.

Tickets are available January 20 by calling (213) 628-2772, online at www.CenterTheatreGroup.org, in person at the CTG box office at the Ahmanson Theatre or two hours prior to performances at the Kirk Douglas Theatre box office.

For the DouglasPlus presentations, CTG's popular Lounge in the bar area of the theatre's lobby will feature drinks, sandwiches and other snacks prior to the events. For "A Pretty Filthy Evening," the Lounge will also be open for an hour after the performance for cocktails and conversation.

DouglasPlus was introduced in the 2008-2009 Kirk Douglas Theatre season with the goal  of broadening the spectrum of what CTG can develop, produce and present at the Douglas. It provides an eclectic mix of theatre choices that utilize both traditional and non-traditional performance spaces. Each presentation has a very limited number of performances to be sold at a modest price.

Funding for DouglasPlus is provided by The James Irvine Foundation's Artistic Innovation Fund and the Leading for the Future Initiative, a program of the Nonprofit Finance Fund, funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

The Kirk Douglas Theatre is located at 9820 Washington Blvd., Culver City, CA 90232.
