With a focus on producing highly regarded, award winning works that leave audiences asking questions and discussing big ideas, Ophelia's Jump Productions presents Bruce Norris' hilarious and insightful award- winning play CLYBOURNE PARK. Directed by co-founder Beatrice Casagran, CLYBOURNE PARK plays August 2 - 18, 2013 at The Don F. Fruechte Theatre for the Performing Arts in Claremont.
This wickedly funny and fiercely provocative play about race, real estate, and the volatile values of each won nearly every honor the theatre has to give, including the 2012 Tony Award for Best Play, Olivier Award, the Evening Standard Award and the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
Tribes, taste, and taboo language are the prickly themes impelling both the comedy and tragedy of this timely play. Act I takes place in the segregated, stratified, and emotionally straitjacketed society of 1959 when the Cleavers and the Nelsons defined the face of acceptable and desirable American ideals. Act II set in 2009, lifts up a mirror to the audience and prompts the old adage, "The more things change, the more they stay the same." Beautifully written, super-intelligent, CLYBOURNE PARK shines a spotlight on the ways we talk - or avoid talking - about the things that frighten us most. Hilarious. Heartbreaking. A full meal, for sure - and wildly entertaining.
