CAP UCLA 2018-19 Public Tickets Now Onsale And Season Additions Announced  ImageUCLA's Center for the Art of Performance (CAP UCLA) announces three additions to its 2018-19 season, which honors legacy artists and features pioneering social justice champions and diverse global perspectives. Bestselling humorist David Sedaris will return with new and unpublished work for the 20th anniversary of his first appearance at Royce Hall. Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning filmmaker and activist Josh Fox will appear in a live solo performance of The Truth Has Changed ahead of the midterm elections. Pulitzer Prize finalist and Latino Literature Hall of Fame member Luis Alberto Urrea will join previously announced Pulitzer winner Viet Thanh Nguyen in a conversation exploring their writing about the immigrant experience and society we all share as Americans.

Individual tickets for all performances in the CAP UCLA 2018-19 season will go on sale to the public on Monday, July 16 at 10 a.m. at cap.ucla.edu, via Ticketmaster, by phone 310-825-2101 and at the UCLA Central Ticket Office.

Featuring bold programs by leading innovators and acknowledged masters in contemporary dance, music, theater and literature, the season runs from September 22, 2018, to May 10, 2019. More than 40 events and 60 performances will be presented, including one U.S. and seven West Coast premieres plus three exclusive programs.

Collaborators include Center Theatre Group, Ford Theatres, Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at the Music Center, The Theatre at Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles and Ucross Foundation.

Diverse social and cultural perspectives will be offered by artists from countries including Armenia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Cuba, Estonia, France, Greece, India, Ireland, Israel, Ivory Coast, Mexico, Nigeria, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, the United States and Vietnam.

"Our programs are designed to bring you closer to the artists who offer us their creative intelligence and deeply considered perspectives," said CAP UCLA Executive and Artistic Director Kristy Edmunds, in her seventh season. "Each performance is distinct, frequently surprising and potently alive."
Highlights will include:

  • The U.S. premiere of Dimitris Papaioannou's visually stunning The Great Tamer, which grapples with the meaning of life and mystery of death, presented in association with Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at the Music Center.
  • West Coast premieres of Inua Ella's Barber Shop Chronicles in its first U.S. tour, Meredith Monk's Cellular Songs, Jérôme Bel's Gala presented in association with Ford Theatres, Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company's Analogy Trilogy, Mon Élue Noire's Sacre #2 choreographed by Olivier Dubois and performed by Germaine Acogny, Carrie Mae Weems' Past Tense, and The White Album by Joan Didion multimedia performance created by former CAP UCLA artist-in-residence Lars Jan presented in association with Center Theatre Group.
  • Exclusive programs staged at The Theatre at Ace Hotel DTLA with L.A.'s legendary UnCabaret celebrating 25 years of groundbreaking comedy with special guest alumni Julia Sweeney, Janeane Garofalo, Greg Behrendt and many more, hosted by creator Beth Lapides; virtuoso violinist Nadia Sirota teaming in a live podcast event with modern music collective wild Up, L.A.-based composer Andrew Norman and N.Y.-based Pulitzer-winning musician Caroline Shaw; and composer, arranger and sought-after collaborator Nico Muhly in a three-part performance titled Archives, Friends, Patterns.
  • Distinguished musicians in iconic performances featuring folk legend Joan Baez in her farewell tour, strong voices for civil rights Sweet Honey In The Rock, 14-time Grammy winner Emmylou Harris, NEA Jazz Master Pat Metheny, NEA National Heritage Fellowship honoree Zakir Hussain, CAP UCLA Artist Fellow Jason Moran's ambitious work Finding a Line: Skateboarding, Music and Media presented with Ford Theatres, DownBeat Jazz Artist of the Year Vijay Iyer and writer and photographer Teju Cole's new collaboration Blind Spot, and CAP UCLA Artist Fellows Kronos Quartet with Oscar-nominated filmmakers Sam Green and Joe Bini in A Thousand Thoughts: A Live Documentary.


Twenty-three productions will take place at Royce Hall and 14 will be staged at The Theatre at Ace Hotel DTLA, in CAP UCLA and Ace's second season of joining forces. Performances will also take place at UCLA campus venues including the Freud Theater, the Glorya Kaufman Dance Theater and Royce Hall Rehearsal Room. ? Throughout the season, CAP UCLA will announce additional student and community engagement programs related to season presentations, such as art-making activities, installations and free performances. CAP will again team up with UCLA Special Collections to help make deeper connections to the artists and ideas from the season by offering insights into UCLA's vast library collections.
