The LA Phil's 2015/16 Songbook Series continues with Brian Stokes Mitchell at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at 8:00 PM. The Tony®-winning singer, actor, arranger and musician joins long-time pianist and collaborator,Tedd Firth, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, led by conductor Kevin Stites, for "In Character," an evening of Broadway tunes filled with beauty, joy, whimsy, romance, and Stokes' signature, inspired vocal interpretations. Expanding on his most recent album, Simply Broadway (which USA Todaydeemed as "one of the best albums of 2012"), Stokes will perform such Broadway classics as "I, Don Quixote," "Feeling Good," "Wheels of a Dream" and "It Ain't Necessarily So," among many others.

Dubbed "the last leading man" by The New York Times, Brian Stokes Mitchell has enjoyed a career that spans Broadway, television, film, and concert appearances with the country's finest conductors and orchestras. He has received Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle awards for his star turn inKiss Me, Kate. He also gave Tony-nominated performances in Man of La Mancha, August Wilson's King Hedley II, and Ragtime. Of his many talents Variety has raved, "It's no secret that he sings better than just about any leading man of today; put him out in front of an audience with a good song, and nobody on Broadway can top him." The New York Times also heralded, "It is no exaggeration to say that Brian Stokes Mitchell is right now in a class by himself as a Broadway leading man. No other actor can match his singing voice. No other singer can claim his acting range or experience."

In April of 2016 Stokes will make a long-awaited return to Broadway starring once again with Audra McDonald in Shuffle Along, a new musical written and directed by George C. Wolfe with choreography by Savion Glover.

An extremely versatile and in-demand singer, Stokes has performed at venues throughout the globe and has worked with such renowned conductors, composers and ensembles as John Williams, Marvin Hamlisch, Keith Lockhart, Michael Tilson Thomas, Leonard Slatkin, The Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Big Band, The Mormon Tabernacle choir and the Muppets.
