Sterling's Upstairs at The Federal welcomes television and Los Angeles Ovation Award nominated theatre composer and performer Brett Ryback in the premiere of The Kid with The Keys tonight, September 16, 2012.
In The Kid with The Keys, Ryback promises an elegant night of troublemaking, immaturity, and kid-play featuring music from the Millennial Generation of composers including Joe Iconis, Ryan Scott Oliver, Daniel Maté and, of course, Ryback himself. Mike Sawitzke (from indie band The EELS) will play guitar; and Max Mueller joins on cello for a show that explores prepubescent awkwardness through songs, anecdotes, and the uncorrected lyrics of grade schoolers who know a lot about life, love, and Unicorns - even if they can't quite spell.
Ryback received an Ovation Award nomination for his music from Liberty Inn: The Musical. He also wrote the book for Darling, as well as the book, music, and lyrics for The Tavern Keeper's Daughter. His recent Los Angeles acting credits include The Lieutenant of Inishmore and The History Boys for Center Theatre Group, and the world premiers of Doctor Cerberus and The Prince of Atlantis for South Coast Rep.
He appeared Off-Broadway in Lesli Margherita's nightclub hit All Hail the Queen, and his television appearances include Cupid, House, and How I Met Your Mother. He has won the Tennessee Williams One-Act Competition, and was a Finalist for the Richard Rodgers Award. For more information about the artist, please visit: www.brettryback.com
