Performances by country music star Wynonna, jazz artist Branford Marsalis, Aussie guitarist Tommy Emmanuel, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Mavis Staples, comic jugglers the Flying Karamazov Brothers, and the dazzling Complexions Contemporary Ballet are just a few of the exciting offerings at Pepperdine University Center for the Arts during its 2013-2014 season.
Among the musicians coming to Pepperdine's Malibu campus are Roger McGuinn and Marty Stuart, YouTube sensation Andy McKee, singer/songwriter
Richard Marx, and blues legend
Taj Mahal. Roots and folk music groups include Hot Club of Cowtown and The Dunwells.
Keigwin + Company performs its quirky and highly entertaining brand of contemporary dance, while dance and music combine in vibrant performances by Spirit of Uganda, whose performers range in age from 10 to 20, and "Celtic Nights: The Emigrants Bridge," featuring some of Ireland's top step-dancers and vocal talents.
Indie musician Aimee Mann and former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins offer an evening of acoustic music and poetry, and Tony Award winner
Faith Prince performs her one-woman show, "Have a Little Faith."
America's Got Talent favorite Recycled Percussion shakes things up with its mix of street-style percussion and repurposed objects, and the
Golden Dragon Acrobats' daring gymnastics and colorful spectacle promise thrills for young and old alike.
Younger audiences have a treat in store with Story Pirates, whose hilarious skits keep parents entertained too. The whole family will enjoy the Center for the Arts' first-ever Family Arts Fest, with indoor and outdoor activities, face painting, Weisman Museum tours, music, and more.
The Recital Series, featuring the talents of young classical musicians, includes performances by violinist Chee-Yun, pianists Steven Lin and Adam Golka, the Amphion String Quartet, and soprano Jessica Rivera, a Pepperdine alumna, accompanied by pianist Robert Spano.
The Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art showcases works by pop artist Wayne Thiebaud and movie poster artist Bob Peak, among others. The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, and is free of admission charge.
The Pepperdine Fine Arts Division presents Mozart's opera Così fan tutte; theatre productions of
Richard Greenberg's Three Days of Rain, Boublil and Schönberg's LES MISERABLES,
Eve Ensler'sNecessary Targets, and Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream; as well as a series of performances by Pepperdine student music ensembles throughout the fall and spring semesters.
Additionally, Pepperdine Student Activities will present its popular Dance in Flight.
