The Covina Center for the Performing Arts’ Artistic General Director Patrick Copeland and Artistic Producing Director Phil Miller are proud to announce that Brady Schwind, Artistic Director at The Neighborhood Playhouse in Palos Verdes, will direct CCPA’s upcoming production of The Light in the Piazza in its Los Angeles Regional Premiere.

The Light in the Piazza will open the Covina Center for the Performing Arts 2009 Mainstage Season on January 23, 2009, running through February 15, 2009. The CCPA’s 2009 Special Event Season will open on February 20 and 21, 2009, with “An Evening with Jason Robert Brown and the Caucasian Rhythm Kings”.

Mr. Schwind will make his CCPA directorial debut directly from the Neighborhood Playhouse in Palos Verdes.  At The Neighborhood Playhouse, Brady has helmed critically acclaimed revivals of The Mystery of Edwin Drood and Amadeus. His direction of the Los Angeles premiere of the Jason Robert Brown/Alfred Uhry musical Parade received rave reviews and prompted Les Spindle of BackStage West to call him “one of the two most outstanding new directors to emerge in Los Angeles in 2008.”

Brady was the youngest person ever awarded New York’s prestigious Bistro Award for the smash revue, The Season, a comedic satire of Broadway history, which ran an unprecedented 24 weeks and was named the “Best Musical of the Year” by Playbill and Theatre Week Magazines. His other regional directing credits include the world premiere production of Anne Hulegard’s Rossetti’s Circle (voted Best Play of the Year by the L.A. Daily Breeze), and regional premieres of A Landscape of the Body, and The Grapes of Wrath.

Miller, Artistic Producing Director for CCPA, said, “Patrick and I had the pleasure of meeting with Brady about this project and instantly we were taken with his passion, knowledge and professionalism. To have the opportunity to present the Los Angeles Regional Premiere of this wonderful piece is a great opportunity for this fledging boutique regional theatre. Having Brady directing is icing on the cake.”

Season Ticket packages are currently on sale; Single Tickets/Gift Certificates for the 2009 Season go on sale beginning November 10, 2008.  For more information or to purchase tickets please call 626) 331-8133 or visit www.covinacenter.com
