Bootleg Theater Presents the Second Show of its 2016-2017 Season, THE STAND-IN

BOOTLEG THEATER is thrilled to announce the second show of its 2016-2017 season, THE STAND- IN, written by Alicia Adams & Peter Monro and directed by Patrick Murphy. THE STAND- IN will begin previews on Thursday, October 13 at 7pm; will open on Saturday, October 15 at 7pm and run through Saturday, November 5 at the Bootleg Theater, 2220 Beverly Blvd. in Los Angeles.

THE STAND- IN looks behind the scenes of "Double Indemnity," an iconic title of the Film Noir canon. Two WW2 exiles - Billy Wilder, the picture's director, and Kasia, an enigmatic young woman - struggle for identity as foreigners while the film is written, shot, and premiered in a strange new land: Los Angeles 1942. Appearing like some sort of siren, Kasia washes onto a beach, only to be rescued by the cinematographer Max. The two quickly fall into an affair as he hires Kasia to work on set. While their passion is genuine, Kasia's ambitions in Hollywood challenge the strength of their relationship. Meanwhile, Billy Wilder acts as ring-leader, guiding everyone on set in an effort to create one of the greatest films ever made.

ALICIA ADAMS (Playwright) is Artistic Director and co-founder of Bootleg Theater, as well as an actress and a fine artist. The Stand-In is her second original play (and second collaboration) resulting in a Bootleg Theater premiere. Her first play (three years ago and created with Justin Zsebe), A Fried Octopus, explored the lives and the world of the women in Toulouse Lautrec's paintings, and was described by Steven Leigh Morris as a "surreal, cryptic and emotionally evocative choreo-play." She comes from a long line of writers and journalists and is drawn to ideas that involve history, research, and other art forms. Her hope is to create original, genre bending works that are daring, contemporary, and striking.

PETER MONRO (Playwright) is a writer and filmmaker originally from the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. He came to the Bootleg as an actor and somehow ended up as a writer. His previous work includes various short films and music videos that have been shown in various film festivals in the US and sometimes in foreign countries. Most notably, his feature film Days Together, which he wrote, directed, edited, and produced was awarded the Programmer's Award for Best Feature at the Virginia Film Festival.

PATRICK MURPHY (Director) Directing credits include Oedipus, Hamlet, Royal Family, This is Not a Pipe Dream, A Flea in Her Ear, The Birthday Party, Juno and the Paycock, Our Town, There is a Happiness That Morning Is and King Lear with Morris Carnovsky. He directed Xenogenesis and Dogtown, both written by Steve Serpas, at the Eclipse Theatre Company in Chicago, which received Joseph Jefferson Awards for Best Ensemble. He was nominated for Best Comedy Direction by the LA Weekly for his production of Exit the King in Los Angeles. As an young actor, Patrick performed with the Oregon Shakespearean Festival; more recently, he was seen as Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman, Les Kennkat in Boy Gets Girl, Creon in Anouilh's Antigone, and Profiry in Crime and Punishment. He was director of a new play ensemble called "Map of the New World Players" as well as "Theatre-Go-Round," a touring improvisational theatre. Patrick is Professor Emeritus at the Theatre School of DePaul University in Chicago. He was Head of the Professional Actor Training program.

THE STAND- IN will preview on Thursday, October 13 & Friday, October 14 at 7pm; will open on Saturday, October 15 at 7pm and run through Saturday, November 5 at the Bootleg Theater, 2220 Beverly Blvd. in Los Angeles.
