The Blind Lemon Peel Pop-Up Blues Festival has established a Go Fund Me Campaign, to help fund the newest, exciting Blues festival in Southern California.
"Friends... in May 2016 we launched the Blind Lemon Peel Pop-Up Blues Festival with one goal in mind: To extend the reach of the Blues to a larger audience, by providing local blues artists access to the larger stage," explains Pop-Up Festival creator, David Hale, who also fronts the Blind Lemon Peel Blues All-Stars. "Four months later, with several Pop-Up Blues Festivals under our belts, we continue to refine the process and improve the presentation. Heartened by our successes, we are more committed to promoting, featuring and giving exposure to local artists than ever before as we strive to be the vehicle that allows local players to play, be seen, be paid, and to really make a statement that the blues is alive in the community," adds Hale.
"To date, we've staged successful BLP Pop-Up Blues Festivals™ at Rusty's Surf Ranch in Santa Monica, Ca, Harvelle's Long Beach, Ca, and the Blue Beet in Newport Beach, Ca., with upcoming Pop-Ups scheduled in Austin, Chicago, and NYC. We've created a "Blues Bashes Back" Pop-Up Fundraiser to help battered women fight domestic abuse in the OC. And by exposing audiences to performers like Diana Rein and the Papermoon Gypsys, New Blues Revolution, Job Striles, Electric Fuzz, The Blues Don, Shy but Flyy, The Regular Guys, Darrin Yarbrough, and more to come, we are re-defining the meaning of the Blues in context of what came before us ... Memphis blues, Texas blues, Delta blues, Kansas City blues, Detroit blues, St. Louis blues, Philly funk and soul. But folks this stuff takes time... and money," Hale concludes.
The Pop-Up Blues Festival has been featured in, among others, Music Connection, Los Angeles Beat, Easy Reader, and The Argonaut as well as on numerous Socal radio stations.
Spontaneity is the Spice of Life, which is what makes the Blind Lemon Peel Pop-Up Blues Festival so exciting and unpredictable. One never knows what special guest artists and/or pop-up vendors will show up!
In addition to great response from area musicians, many of the SoCal venues hosting the Pop-Up Blues Festivals have been very happy with the results, too. "It is clear that David Hale cares deeply about the success of his Pop-Up Blues Festivals, the continued growth of local community-based Blues music and good times for everyone involved," says Matthew Zenteno, General Manager of Rusty's Surf Ranch in Santa Monica. "Because he is a top-rate musician, he knows first-hand what he needs to put on a great show. They packed the house and the bands tore up the night, filling the room with high-energy tunes. The crowd enjoyed their time and were seen dancing from beginning to end. There's no reason not to host a Pop-Up Blues Festival at your establishment." Lisa Williams, GM of renowned Long Beach venue Harvelle's Blues Club, writes, "Oh man I want to kiss you right now. Thank you guys for being so so good. Last night was the most rocking night we've ever had here! I've already called our owner to tell him how amazing you guys are!... I really appreciate it David Dot Hale!! Thank you again . I (love you) SO SO hard."
Upcoming Pop-Up Blues Festivals are the third Thursday of each month at Harvelle's in Long Beach, CA; and also the first Thursday of every month at The Blue Beet in Newport Beach, CA.
