Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles (BBBSLA) will host its annual "Accessories for Success" Scholarship Luncheon on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at the Beverly Wilshire, Beverly Hills. The fundraiser luncheon will honor Mike Daly, Producer-Songwriter and Executive Director of A&R and Music Publishing at Disney Music Group with the "Excellence in Mentoring Award". Prior to the luncheon, luxury boutique vendors will feature unique accessories and gifts for purchase with a portion of the proceeds donated to BBBSLA.
"We are honored to celebrate Mike Daly for his generosity, commitment, and myriad of contributions to our community," said BBBSLA CEO Olivia Diaz-Lapham. "Over the past nine years, Mike has been a consistent presence in his Little Brother's life, helping him find his voice and encouraging him to embrace his full potential, which is the goal of all mentoring relationships Big Brothers and Big Sisters creates."
"Excellence in Mentoring Award" recipient Mike Daly is the Executive Director of A&R and Music Publishing at the Disney Music Group, which covers Hollywood Records, Buena Vista Records, Walt Disney Records and Disney Music Publishing. Daly is celebrating his ninth match anniversary with his Little Brother Jonathan at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles. He also serves as a mentor for the Techstars Music Accelerator Program. Daly is an accomplished producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. "For the past nine years, my life has been enriched by my dear friend and little brother, Jonathan," said honoree Mike Daly. "Receiving this award for our work together is truly humbling. It's an honor that I share with Jonathan, the incredible men and women of BBBSLA, as well as my fellow Big Brothers and Big Sisters; whose commitment to the youth of our city is nothing short of inspiring. As Winston Churchill once said, 'We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.'"
BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF GREATER LOS ANGELES provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that change the lives of both, for the better, forever. Many of the youth in this program come from extremely challenging circumstances at home, at school or in their neighborhood, yet they have enormous potential. BBBSLA volunteer mentors accept the mission to be Defenders of Potential. With the support of their mentors, these students are beating the odds in BIG ways - many of them being the first in their family to go to college. 96% of the youth who have a Big Brother or Big Sister are graduating from high school and 94% of them are going on to pursue higher education. Founded by Walt Disney and "Music Man" composer Meredith Willson in 1955, BBBSLA is a leading non-profit in the Los Angeles community.
